Longtime NFL insider Tom Pelissero is reportedly out at ESPN

Longtime NFL Insider Tom Pelissero Is Reportedly Out At ESPN

With NFL Network being acquired by ESPN earlier this year, it appears Tom Pelissero's new bosses don't have room for him anymore.

For the better part of a decade Tom Pelissero has ranked among the top NFL insiders, often serving as the No. 2 or an outright equal to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network. But with NFL Network being acquired by ESPN earlier this year, it appears his new bosses don't have room for him anymore.

Layoffs have been reported across ESPN with veterans such as Ryan Clark and Karl Ravech already being handed their pink slips. Unfortunately, it appears that Pelissero will be joining them on the unemployment line soon.

Front Office Sports reported this morning that ESPN is expected to lay off Pelissero as part of their layoffs.

"NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero is expected to be laid off by ESPN on Tuesday, sources told Front Office Sports," the outlet reported. "An ESPN spokesperson declined to comment."

Destinations?

If there's any consolation for Pelissero it's that his years of NFL reporting experience should give him an edge over the competition as far as finding a new home goes. CBS Sports recently lost lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones to The Athletic, and The Athletic is still seeking its permanent senior NFL insider to replace Dianna Russini.

On the streaming side, Amazon Prime Video no longer has Ian Rapoport following his extension with ESPN. Netflix is also continuing to build out its lineup of reporters.

Pelissero's impending departure comes amid a round of layoffs that ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro addressed in a company-wide statement today.

“Team: Over the past several months, we’ve made significant progress integrating the NFL assets that we acquired into ESPN. Throughout this process, we have taken the time to carefully evaluate our collective teams, resources and organizational structure to best position us for the future. As a result, we had to make some difficult decisions about job impacts that we will be communicating today. While most of the job impacts are tied to the acquisition, we will also notify colleagues in other parts of the company today that their positions have been impacted. We are committed to treating employees with compassion and respect and to providing support as they navigate this transition. Even in moments like these, the strength of ESPN comes from our people, our teamwork and our shared mission to serve sports fans,” Pitaro said.

More names are expected to surface in the hours and days to come.
