Seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz hasn't competed in a match since April 14, but it sounds like he's inching closer to his return.
The 2026 season started off with such promise for Alcaraz, who won the Australian Open to complete the career Grand Slam at the young age of 22. Unfortunately, he suffered a wrist injury during the clay court season that prevented him from defending his title at Roland Garros. He also had to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon Championships.
“My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to be able to play, and that’s why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon,” Alcaraz said. “They are two really special tournaments for me and I’ll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!”
Tennis fans have sorely missed watching Alcaraz on the court, make no mistake about it. The good news, however, is that he's in the draw for next month’s Cincinnati Open.
As for his status for the 2026 US Open, it was revealed Tuesday that Alcaraz is on the entry list.
Barring a setback in his recovery, Alcaraz will compete in the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. Of course, fans should temper their expectations since he's dealing with a serious wrist injury.

Alcaraz was dominant at the 2025 US Open, defeating Reilly Opelka, Mattia Bellucci, Luciano Darderi, Arthur Rinderknech, Jiri Lehecka and Novak Djokovic without dropping a single set.
Although he lost the second set against Jannik Sinner in the final, Alcaraz cruised to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
If Alcaraz is truly back to 100 percent, there's no reason to believe why he can't win the US Open again.
