Unfortunately for WNBA fans, Caitlin Clark won't be participating in the 3-Point Contest during this weekend's All-Star festivities.
The WNBA confirmed that Portland Fire forward Bridget Carleton, Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd, Seattle Storm guard Natisha Hiedeman, Atlanta Dream star Rhyne Howard, Toronto Tempo veteran Marina Mabrey and Golden State Valkyries forward Janelle Salaün will compete in this year's 3-Point Contest. As of this moment, Howard and Mabrey are leading the league in 3-pointers made per game.
Indiana Fever fans were understandably hoping Clark would be in the field for the 3-Point Contest, especially since she's known for her range. However, Front Office Sports said the former No. 1 pick from Iowa turned down the opportunity.
"A source familiar with the situation told FOS that some players were invited but declined the invitation for various reasons. The Indiana Fever, New York Liberty, and representatives for Clark and Ionescu did not immediately respond to a request for comment," Colin Salao wrote. "Clark has still never shot in the contest since joining the league three years ago; she left Iowa as the all-time Division I leader in made three-pointers. She did not participate in her rookie season, but was announced as a participant last year when the event was held in Indianapolis."
What makes this news so disappointing is that Clark was supposed to compete in the 2025 3-Point Contest before she went down with a groin injury.
Will we see Caitlin Clark during the WNBA's All-Star weekend?
Clark, who is averaging 20.7 points and 7.8 assists per game this season, has been named a starter for this year's All-Star Game. She'll be teammates with A'ja Wilson, Olivia Miles, Aliyah Boston and Jessica Shepard among others.
We have no doubt Clark will produce a jaw-dropping highlight or two during this weekend's All-Star Game.
The WNBA All-Star Game will be played July 25 at the United Center.
