"(The Reds') season ended in late April," Kirk Herbstreit told Pat McAfee. "They are done, done, done, done. ... Reds baseball is just a disaster."

Amazon Prime Video analyst Kirk Herbstreit, a self-proclaimed diehard Cincinnati Reds fan from Centerville, Ohio, appeared July 22 on ESPN's "Pat McAfee Show," and went into painstaking detail about how challenging it is for him to root for the Reds.

"Being a Reds fan, their season ended in late April," Herbstreit told McAfee. "They are done, done, done, done. I'm ready for NFL. When's the Hall of Fame Game. I've got to get to the Hall of Fame Game, and then I'm home free. Reds baseball is just a disaster, and it has been for 13 straight years. It just kills your summer."

"Mid-May (contention) is a bonus. Mid-May would be huge," Herbstreit continued. "I'm a Columbus Blue Jackets fan. Cincinnati Reds fan. And it is hell. It is just a living hell. I follow it. I cheer. That's my problem is I care too much. I need to get to that stage where you just don't care anymore."

In October 2025, Herbstreit spoke during the fourth quarter of the Bengals' thrilling NFL Week 7 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Paycor Stadium on Thursday Night Football about the mindset of Bengals and Reds fans in a close game.

"I grew up in southwest Ohio," Herbstreit said with the Bengals leading 30-24. "I know how Cincinnati fans think, whether it's the Reds or the Bengals. There isn't a person in a white T-shirt or jersey that isn't thinking about a walk to their car with a 31-30 loss right now. I'm telling you. I'm getting texts from Cincinnati fans that - I have a text chain called 'Pain' that we are part of for being Reds fans, and it carries over into the fall. I'm just saying that's what you think is gonna happen."

Tim Tebow comes out of ESPN bloodbath with new contract

There’s been a dark cloud above ESPN, except for Tim Tebow.
