Jeana Keough is readying for surgery—but she has a few obstacles to overcome first.
While in the hospital for treatment of her tongue cancer diagnosis, the Real Housewives of Orange County alum has recently experienced health complications that have delayed an important operation, according to her daughter Kara Bosworth.
"Jeana was scheduled to get the G-tube this morning so she can get some nutrition," Bosworth said in an Instagram post July 21, referring to the shorthand for gastronomy tube. "She hasn’t been able to eat a meal for 2 weeks, so she’s extremely depleted."
The 37-year-old—who also appeared on the Bravo series during her mom's five-season tenure along with brothers Shane Keough, 39, and Colton Keough, 34, plus dad Matt Keough—specified that the new medical concerns include deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot that could possibly lead to a pulmonary embolism, per the Mayo Clinic.
"We uncovered a DVT clot in her leg, and now an infection, too," Bosworth continued in the post. "The feeding tube can’t be put directly into her stomach until there’s clarity on the infection."
Knowing that “so many folks love and care about Mama Jeans,” she also requested prayers for Keough, 70, to clear the infection so she can continue with the procedure, as well as resume chemo and radiation. Regardless of the challenges, Bosworth joked, "You better believe Jeana is insisting she only had a 'fake fever' and that she’s fine to continue with the surgery."
Bosworth previously shared the depths of her mom's ongoing battle, which started as a spot on Keough's tongue a few months ago.
“I asked her how long the sore had been there,” Bosworth detailed on a GoFundMe page asking for assistance with the cost of Keough's multiple surgeries. "She paused, thought about it and realized it had been nearly a year. A biopsy confirmed our worst fear: squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue."
After five weeks of what Bosworth noted as "relentless" and exhausting treatments, other stars from the RHOC universe have spoken up in support of Keough, including costar Vicki Gunvalson.
"By now most of you have heard my incredible friend @jeanakeough is battling cancer," Gunvalson wrote on Instagram July 20. "Jeana, you have been there for so many people through your life, now it’s our turn to be there for you! We love you girl."
