Jowonio School has launched a search for its next executive director as the preschool and childcare provider continues operating under a settlement agreement with New York state while its childcare license remains in pending revocation status.
The school’s Board of Directors announced this week it is seeking a full-time executive director to lead the organization from its East Genesee Street campus. According to the job posting, the position is on-site, Monday through Friday, with a salary ranging from $110,000 to $130,000 per year.
In a social media post, Jowonio said its Board of Directors has begun searching for a “thoughtful, collaborative leader” to guide the organization’s next chapter.
The leadership search comes about a month after former Executive Director Lori Saile stepped down during a state investigation into the school’s childcare operations. Jen Petrie has been serving as acting director.
CNY Central previously reported that OCFS suspended Jowonio’s childcare license on June 11 after inspections and complaint investigations found multiple regulatory violations, including concerns involving child supervision, safety precautions, staffing responsibilities and reporting requirements. One of those findings involved a child being left unattended in a transportation van for about five minutes, according to OCFS.
The school reopened five days later on June 17 after reaching a settlement agreement with the state. Under that agreement, Jowonio was required to update supervision policies, complete additional staff training, make staffing changes and pay a civil fine before resuming operations.

At the time, OCFS said the proposed revocation of Jowonio’s license would remain in place until the agency determined the school had fully completed the required corrective actions and demonstrated those changes were effective. New York State officials said that review process could take weeks or months.
As of Tuesday, July 22, New York State’s online childcare provider database continues to list Jowonio’s facility status as "Pending Revocation," meaning the state is considering taking away Jowonio’s license, but the school can continue operating while OCFS reviews the situation and decides whether the license should be revoked.
