A Seneca County High School has launched a new program to recognize community contributions and engagement of alumni in hopes to inspire current and future students.
Mynderse Academy, the only high school for the Seneca Falls School District, has formally created its first-ever 'Mynderse Academy Distinguished Alum Program' this year. According to the district, the annual program will honor a nominated alum who has made positive contributions through community service or civic engagement, sustained overall community influence, and/or made significant achievement in their field.
The nominated alum will then be asked to engage with current students, including delivering a message at the Mynderse Academy graduation ceremony. Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis with a deadline of November 1st to be considered for the current school year. Applications submitted after will be considered for a future school year.
Located in rural Seneca County, U.S. News and World Report ranks Mynderse Academy relatively middle-of-the-road in comparison to the rest of New York State. Data shows that the school sees an enrollment average slightly below 100 per grade level, and that approximately 46% of students are economically disadvantaged. Given the circumstances, test scores remain around expectations with a graduation rate slightly above state average at 94%.
To be eligible, an alum must have made some of the above achievements or community contributions as described, and graduated from the high school at least 10 years ago.
To nominate an alum, a form is included in this report or can be found following this link. An application packet will be mailed following initial completion of the nomination form, and the application has gone under review by the committee.
