Jessica Chastain's upcoming supernatural horror movie has received a frightening official trailer. The actor isn't an unfamiliar face in the horror/thriller genre. Her previous credits includeIT: Chapter Two (2019), Take Shelter (2011), and Crimson Peak (2015). In fact, one of her best-known roles is Annabel in Andy Muschietti's horror hit Mama (2013). In the supernatural thriller movie, Chastain portrays a woman who adopts her husband's (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) two nieces, who, after the death of their parents, were found living feral in the woods. However, they weren't alone in those woods, as a supernatural entity known as "Mama" then terrorizes the new family.
For her latest project, Interstellar star Chastain plays not only the doting mother of a young girlthreatened by a hostile supernatural force, but also the entity itself as it eerily takes the shape of her in a Coraline-esque fashion. Directed by Host's Rob Savage, Other Mommy follows an eight-year-old girl, Bela, who is haunted by a powerful entity that resembles her mother, Ursula (Chastain).The new trailer for the maternal horror flick has already been giving people nightmares in the run-up to Christopher Nolan's smash-hit blockbuster The Odysseyin cinemas.
The trailer's beginning clearly demonstrates what kind of force this "Other Mommy" is going to be, as what starts as an innocent chat between Ursula and Bela about not eating ice cream for lunch evolves into nightmare fuel as her father, Russ, finds her in a smoking kitchen — before the entity comes crawling from underneath the dinner table in a horrific scene. Meanwhile, other instances show Bela in a car in a makeshift ball pit as the Other Mommy creepily arises from the pit, leaving Bela unable to differentiate between who is her actual mother and who is the creepy entity haunting her family. The Other Mommy also poses a question to Bela: "Can I go inside your heart?," which, if she doesn't answer soon, could lead to terrifying consequences for the entire family.
Other Mommy is an adaptation of the 2025 book, Incidents Around The House, written by Bird Box's Josh Malerman, while Nathan Elston penned the movie's screenplay. Joining Chastain in the cast are Arabella Olivia Clark (Bela), Jay Duplass (Russ), Dichen Lachman, Arian Moyaed, Karen Allen, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver, and Rosie Anne O'Gorman. Atomic Monster, Blumhouse, and Spin a Black Yarn are also backing the production for Universal Pictures, while James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) and Malerman, along with Savage, will be on as producers and executive producers.
Other Mommy was originally scheduled to be released earlier this year on May 8. However, it was then pushed to its current date, Oct. 9, 2026. It will also be Savage's latest horror film off the back of Dashcam (2021) and The Boogeyman (2023).
