Before the end of the year, DC Studios will be back in theaters with Clayface, the franchise's third theatrically-released movie after 2025's Superman and 2026's Supergirl. Directed by horror veteran James Watkins, Warner Bros. brings in White Lines star Tom Rhys Harries to take on the titular role of Matt Hagen, an up-and-coming actor whose life is changed forever after a brutal encounter with a gangster. From here, he turns to a scientist and undergoes an experiment that turns his entire body into clay, setting him up to be a terrifying and monstrous figure in the greater DC Universe.
As of this writing, DC Studios has only released one trailer for Clayface, which first debuted during the company's presentation at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The footage mostly focused on Matt Hagen's recovery in the hospital after he was brutally attacked and disfigured, teasing some of the body horror elements and visuals for Clayface's big screen debut. While much of the film is still shrouded in mystery, DC is starting to shed a little more light on what to expect from this iconic Batman antagonist.
Entertainment Weekly shared new details on DC Studios' upcoming Clayface movie, releasing multiple new photos from the film. The photos include a behind-the-scenes look at star Tom Rhys Harries working closely with director James Watkins, along with a tender moment between Matt Hagen (Harries) and Dr. Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie). Elsewhere, a couple of solo looks at Hagen in his portrayal of the titular villain in public settings, including seemingly looking at his reflection in a window and analyzing his new condition.
Looking ahead, there are still plenty of questions to be answered about what Clayface will deliver and how it will fit into the greater DC Universe next to movies like Superman and Supergirl. It will also be the first peek into this version of Gotham, which may come years before the DCU delivers its first solo Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold.
For now, DC Studios will use the next few weeks to continue to promote Clayface, although this will not include a major presence this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. Thankfully, its late October release should set it up perfectly to shine during the spooky season, giving the DC franchise one of its darkest and scariest solo stories to date behind a character that should bring plenty of screams.
Clayface will debut in theaters on Oct. 23, 2026.
