Jason Statham is returning to theaters this summer in another hard-hitting action thriller. Lionsgate has released the final trailer for "Mutiny," which is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on August 21, 2026.
The latest footage shows Statham playing Cole Reed, a former Special Forces operative and New York police officer who now works in private security. After witnessing the murder of his billionaire industrialist boss, Reed is framed for the crime and forced to go on the run.
His attempt to avenge his boss and identify the real killer eventually takes him aboard a cargo ship. What begins as a personal mission soon exposes a much larger international conspiracy, according to the film's official synopsis.
The trailer leans heavily into the elements audiences have come to expect from a Statham vehicle, including close-quarters combat, gunfights, explosions and a protagonist forced to take on seemingly impossible odds. "Mutiny" is directed by French filmmaker Jean‑François Richet, whose previous credits include the 2023 Gerard Butler thriller "Plane," "Blood Father" and the two-part crime epic "Mesrine." The screenplay was written by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis.
The supporting cast includes Annabelle Wallis, known for "Peaky Blinders" and "Malignant," as well as Roland Møller, Jason Wong, Adrian Lester and Arnas Fedaravičius. Møller reportedly plays the film's primary antagonist.
Statham also serves as a producer through Punch Palace Productions, the production company he launched with longtime producing partner Steve Chasman. Marc Butan is additionally credited as a producer, with MadRiver Pictures involved in the production.
The thriller was originally scheduled to arrive on January 9, 2026, before Lionsgate moved it to the late-summer calendar. The studio subsequently set the film for August 21, placing it among the final major theatrical action releases of the season. Deadline first reported the new date in October 2025.
The film is rated R for strong bloody violence and language and runs approximately 95 minutes. Those details, combined with the trailer's relentless action, suggest that "Mutiny" is designed as a lean, adult-oriented thriller rather than a sprawling franchise entry.
