As 2026 represents the 10-year anniversary of its release, Korean director Yeon Sang-ho's acclaimed action horror movie Train to Busan will return to theaters across North America on August 14th. The modern zombie tale features a group of passengers attempting to stay alive aboard a high-speed train as the zombie apocalypse breaks out in the surrounding country. Their efforts to contain the outbreak within the train itself lead to plenty of close-quarters zombie action and claustrophobic chases, along with bona fide character development and heart.
Train to Busan's theatrical return will represent the exclusive route to viewing the movie's 4K remaster, the "remastered and revived edition" of the original movie. A 4K remaster involves taking a movie's original negatives, scanning them digitally, removing any scratches, film grain, or camera jitter, and correcting the color to match what it was originally intended to be (while also making sure it lives up to modern HDR viewing). For Train to Busan, the 4K remaster will provide the most captivating version of the experience yet, as all the blood, white-knuckle action, and vicious zombie snarls will be depicted in a flawless fashion.

Train to Busan is well worth the meticulous effort of a 4K remaster, as it's widely regarded as one of the best action movies of the century (so far) in addition to being one of the only truly great modern zombie movies. As of this writing it remains Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% Tomatometer score, along with an 89% audience-based Popcornmeter score. It's loaded with pulse-pounding zombie action that dominates the narrative, but the reason it's had so much staying power is the human story at its heart. It also offers a sharp critique of human selfishness and the division among classes, which elevates it above what one would consider standard zombie fare. 2026 might go down as one of the all-time best years of horror, but action fans should be just as excited about a perfected version of Train to Busan.
