Action movie icon Jackie Chan returns for a new sequel in one of his longest-running franchises, with the actor and martial artist confirmed to be deep into production on a follow-up to his own series that first started 40 years ago. At 72, the Rush Hour and Police Story star is now putting together what will surely be another action-adventure epic brimming with death-defying stunts as the genre legend returns to the fray in newly released behind-the-scenes footage.
Kicking off way, way back in the before times of 1986, Jackie Chan launched his own franchise to rival Harrison Ford’s intrepid adventurer, Indiana Jones, taking the lead both in front of and behind the camera in Armour of God. Introducing Chan as Jackie, aka "Asian Hawk," a treasure hunter who, with his friend Alan (Alan Tam), aid a woman (Rosamund Kwan) kidnapped by cultists seeking the titular set of armor, which legend says has mystical powers, Armor of God combined the archaeological escapades of Indy with Chan's well-renowned brand of martial arts and resulted in a solid adventure throwback.
The franchise has since spawned two sequels in Armour of God 2: Operation Condor in 1991 and CZ12, aka Chinese Zodiac in 2012. While the first and second movies were met with rave reviews thanks to Chan’s trademark action sequences amid a pulpy action-adventure tale, the third outing sadly failed to live up to its predecessors. Hopefully, with Armour of God IV: Ultimatum now on the way, the series can strike action-adventure gold once again.

The new behind-the-scenes footage (via Instagram) finds Jackie Chan in the studio with director Robert Kun, best-known for his stunt work on the likes of Day Watch, Wanted, and I Am Dragon, and the rest of the creative team as they pour over concept art for what looks like some seriously explosive action sequences.
Confirmed to begin filming in a few months' time, production on Armour of God IV: Ultimatum will take place in Kazakhstan, marking Chan’s first movie in the region, with a planned 2027 worldwide release. The sequel will continue the story of Jackie Chan’s recurring character, the Asian Hawk, who is drawn back into action when a global hunt erupts over an ancient artifact known as the Tumar, carrying a reward of more than $20 million.
Jackie Chan is coming off the back of one of his best-received action movies in years, The Shadow's Edge, which sees the actor and martial artist return to true thriller territory in a tale of a former surveillance expert called back into action after a series of heists are linked to an elusive fugitive. Chan is also set to return for another franchise sequel, Rush Hour 4, which is now reportedly in early production, with New Police Story 2 also reportedly on the horizon.
