Upon its release in theaters in 1990, the horror comedy sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch was not a major hit at the box office, though it went on to develop a cult following. 36 years later, it's back in the spotlight with its upcoming arrival on Peacock, giving viewers a chance to revisit the Gremlins sequel ahead of the upcoming third installment.
The full list of new additions for Aug. 2026 on Peacock has been unveiled. Both Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch will be arriving on Aug. 1. There's a good chance revered filmmaker Quentin Tarantino will be streaming the sequel, as he's previously indicated that it's one of the movies he enjoys most. The Pulp Fiction helmer even called it a "masterpiece" while sharing his opinion that the movie only gets better and better each time watching it.

"I think Gremlins 2 is Joe Dante's best movie," Taraninto said on Eli Roth's History of Horror podcast. "As opposed to the first Gremlins movie, which recedes from the memory like all those Amblin movies, Gremlins 2 just gets better every time you see it. Gremlins 2 works. It's just really, it's really, really, funny. In fact, I would even go so far as to say it's the first of those gag-like movies to 100% work from beginning to end since Airplane!"
In a separate interview for the Video Archives podcast, he also said of the sequel, "I actually think Gremlins 2: The New Batch is a f**king masterpiece. Absolute masterpiece. The greatest [counterpart to] Mad magazine ever turned into a film."
A Third Gremlins Movie Is Coming Next Year
While the original movie had elements of humor, Gremlins 2: The New Batch was absolutely bonkers, leaning much more heavily into comedy than its predecessor. Written by Charles S. Haas, the movie brought back Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates from the first film, now joined by John Glover, Robert Picardo, and Christopher Lee. It picks up with more Gremlins being spawned from Gizmo (Howie Mandel) to wreak havoc in a New York skyscraper, all while spoofing other popular movies at the time.
After a hit animated series spinoff was made for HBO Max, Gremlins is next heading back to the big screen. A third film has been officially dated for a theatrical release on Nov. 19, 2027, with original Gremlins helmer Chris Columbus back in the director's chair. Because Columbus is taking the helm, the threequel will likely be more in line with the original movie, more so than The New Batch. However, no plot details about the new movie have yet been shared.
Meanwhile, amid the wait for the third feature film, Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch hit Peacock on Aug. 1, 2026.
