It's the start of an era for Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone

It's The Start Of An Era For Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone has just hit a major streaming mark, officially marking the start of a new era for the show that changed Westerns.

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone series is one of the most influential projects Hollywood has seen in a long time, and a new era for it has started after a major win. Sheridan's long list of successful projects might include a few different genres, with spy thrillers like Lioness, crime thrillers like Mayor of Kingstown, and more among the writer's biggest works.

That said, there is no denying that Sheridan's bread and butter is the Western genre, which the creator has revitalized in a major way. Sheridan managed to do that with high-profile movies like Hell or High Water, and trend-setting TV shows like Yellowstone. The latter debuted on June 20, 2018, going on for five seasons, and concluding its run on December 15, 2024.

While Yellowstone might have ended, the universe that started with the show is far from being done. Several Yellowstone spinoff series have been released, with Sheridan either directly involved as their creator or playing the role of an executive producer in the Western shows. The expansive Yellowstone universe now includes multiple prequels and sequels, making it as expansive as it could be.

All of that would not have been possible had Sheridan's Yellowstone not been a huge global hit that also set up a deep history for the wider franchise to play with. Now, the initial generation of the Duttons to be depicted on the small screen has taken back its streaming throne. It is the start of a new era for Yellowstone.

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone Leads Streaming Again

Yellowstone starts a new era by reclaiming a streaming top spot amid the reign of the Western franchise's many spinoff shows. The original Sheridan Western series has now become the most-watched TV show on Paramount+ worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. Not only has Yellowstone managed to rise back on top of the streaming horse, but it did so by taking one of its spinoffs off the saddle. Prior to the streamer's charts' shift this Tuesday, July 21, it was the Yellowstone sequel series Dutton Ranch that had been leading Paramount+ globally as its most popular show.

Dutton Ranch continues the story of a few Yellowstone characters, with the show's focus being on Rip and Beth. Yellowstone also ranks higher than another recent spinoff, Marshals, which changes formats for the franchise to a procedural approach and shines the spotlight on Kayce Dutton. Marshals stands at 7th on Paramount+'s global chart. Tulsa King, a non-Yellowstone crime thriller from Sheridan, is also on the list, at 4th. In the United States, Yellowstone can be streamed on Peacock, not trending on Paramount+ like the Western series is currently doing in a whopping 25 countries — it is #1 in 17.

Yellowstone's new era as a global streaming leader is exciting, and it serves as a clear sign of how the Western series is seemingly never going to go out of fashion. For starters, Yellowstone modernized the Western genre, making it appealing to a new generation, which has led to a surge in genre releases over the last eight years. Additionally, while Yellowstone might have ended in 2024, the franchise created by Sheridan is alive and well. There are now multiple sequels that have already been renewed for new seasons, making the Yellowstone franchise's future look bright.

As these shows continue to expand, Yellowstone will always be there as a gateway for those looking to get into this Western world filled with hit series. Even in the case of new viewers who first watch Dutton Ranch or Marshals, Yellowstone will then serve as the perfect in-depth follow-up project to those, acting as a prequel to those ongoing stories. There is no doubt that the spinoffs' performance is what helped drive Yellowstone back to Paramount+'s global top spot, and the show should continue to do well for years to come.
