As one of the longest running franchises on network TV, NCIShas been able to reinvent itself time and time again, but its newest era is going to be unlike anything it's ever done before. Throughout the twenty-plus years that NCIS and its many spinoffs have been on the air, the franchise has gone through nearly everything. From controversial casting changes to major character deaths, the franchise has worked through drama on-screen and off. Now, moving into NCIS season 24 with an original cast member reprising their role, the hub of the franchise is only one piece of the puzzle.

All Four Current NCIS Franchise Shows Will All Air On CBS In The 2026-2027 Season
As the NCIS franchise gears up for its newest installments, it's lucky to have four shows that will air over the course of the network season. While one of the franchise's shows won't be airing upfront in the fall, three will be getting started during an action packed night of NCIS on CBS. The flagship series, NCIS, will air first on Tuesday evenings. Heading into its 24th season, the long-running procedural will welcome back original cast member Michael Weatherly as Tony DiNozzo Jr. for a season-long arc. After the cancelation of Paramount+'s NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Weatherly's reappearance is exciting.
Along with NCIS' flagship series, two of the franchise's three currently airing spinoffs will be airing on Tuesdays, as well. NCIS' newest spinoff, NCIS: New York, will air after the flagship series. Starring LL Cool J as Sam Hanna, reprising his role from the former NCIS: Los Angeles, and Scott Caan as his partner, Nick Schaeffer, the series will operate as the bridge between NCIS' present and its past. Finally, NCIS: Origins will air its third season to end the block, bringing the rocky origin story of former MCRT leader, Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Nick Schaeffer and Mark Harmon), to life.
The three NCIS shows running this fall will eventually be joined by NCIS: Sydney season 3 in 2027. With all four of the currently airing NCIS franchise shows on CBS, the newest era of the franchise is prioritizing its network roots and re-establishing its identity. With multiple shows keeping the franchise alive, having all of them on network TV will allow new viewers to dip into different sides of the NCIS world. Rather than having different shows on various platforms, all of them being on network TV offers the chance to keep up with all things NCIS this coming season.
The NCIS Franchise Is Reinventing Itself In Its New Era
While NCIS is going to maintain the same level of storytelling that viewers have come to know and love, this exciting new era is ushering in reinvention for the long-running franchise, as well. With NCIS season 24 bringing Tony back into the fold for an arc that has yet to be revealed, seeing an original team member returning to the MCRT will offer a change in dynamics for the team overall. On top of the changes to NCIS' flagship series, NCIS: New York will bring in a veteran presence with a twist, exploring a new layer of the NCIS universe.
As NCIS: Origins season 3 heads into new stories, the exciting return of Mark Harmon to the franchise as Gibbs in the present-tense makes for a long-awaited reunion, one that's been years in the making. Viewers will get the chance to dive into three distinctly different worlds within the same universe, and when NCIS: Sydney joins in on the fun in 2027, there will be even more to explore. Moving forward, the NCIS franchise appears to be taking big risks, breaking many of its existing rules, and working to tell the best stories possible in the coming network season.
