It's Official: The Elder Scrolls VI Is Finally Confirmed

15 years after the release of Skyrim, Bethesda has officially confirmed The Elder Scrolls VI.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimis one of the greatest and most important video games ever made, and fans have been waiting for 15 years for any word of a sequel. Now, at long last, Bethesda has officially confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI will be releasing.

The Elder Scrolls VI was first teased all the way back in 2018, and the silence from Bethesda on it since has led many fans to believe the project was dead. Now, however, there's direct word from the developer that the only game in history more anticipated than the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is Bethesda's priority, and that they're doing everything they can to make it worth the way.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released all the way back in 2011, famously one of the greatest years in gaming history. Since then, Bethesda has released both The Elder Scrolls Online and a remaster that was actually more of a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Despite the immense quality of these titles, Skyrim has remained the definitive game in the series. It sold unbelievably, it won countless awards, it revolutionized open-world RPGs, it practically became the face of the modding community, and players are still dumping thousands of hours into it even today.

For these reasons and more, gamers have longed to see how Bethesda could possibly top themselves with The Elder Scrolls VI. The sequel's initial teaser nearly broke the internet with the excitement it brought about, and the defending silence since then has made for a painful eight years.

Now, at long last, Bethesda has released an official statement on its X account that changes everything. While the statement went over a large array of subjects, what the company had to say about development of The Elder Scrolls VI is easily the most interesting part of it.

"THE ELDER SCROLLS AND BEYOND," the section of the statement begins. "That foundation extends beyond our teams to the technology, tools, and systems that will power the next generation of Bethesda RPGs."

"Our teams are now developing The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform we've been building since Starfield's launch. It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games. Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction."

"The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise," the statement continues. "With over 65 million copies sold, players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later, but we know it’s been a very long wait for the sequel. The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day."

Despite all the fears of fans, The Elder Scrolls VI is coming. And, with how substantially the video game industry has grown over the past 15 years, and how much technology has evolved, there's no doubt that the open-world RPG will surpass Skyrim's 65 million copies sold, and be a vastly superior experience overall.
