A human smuggling operation was disrupted near Laredo, resulting in multiple arrests, according to the U.S. Border Patrol Laredo Sector.
The agency reported the incident Tuesday, July 21, and said Border Patrol agents worked alongside state and federal law enforcement.
A total of 33 people who were in the country illegally from five different countries were arrested during the operation and will be processed and deported.
The U.S. citizens accused of harboring the individuals are facing alien smuggling charges, according to Border Patrol.
“Human smugglers have no regard for your safety,” the agency said. “Don’t risk it—the border is closed.”
Border Patrol did not specify the identities of those arrested, the precise location of the operation, the five countries involved or additional details about the smuggling charges.
The public is encouraged to report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol hotline at 1-800-343-1994.
