Projections have shifted this week, with Laredo's forecast now calling for heavy rain Friday morning.
The National Weather Service projected at the start of the week 0.02 inches of rain Friday as the only rainfall expected for the week. As of Wednesday, the forecast called for 0.02 inches Thursday evening, followed by 0.39 inches by 1 p.m. Friday.
Rain chances will peak at 51% at 4 a.m. Friday and remain at 39% from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. before dropping to 6%. There are no rain chances Saturday through Tuesday.
Laredo has recorded only 0.05 inches of rain in July, all of it falling July 16. Adding the projected rainfall would bring the monthly total to 0.46 inches.
That would rank as the 45th-driest July in history and below last year's 0.81 inches. It would mark one of seven Julys since 2015 with less than an inch of rain. Laredo recorded a combined 0.06 inches in July 2015, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
NWS also updated its high-temperature projections, with the week turning out hotter than expected. Tuesday was projected to reach 106 degrees but reached 107 degrees, the hottest temperature of 2026.
Wednesday's projected high increased to 108 degrees after previously being forecast at 105 degrees. That would break the record high for July 22 of 107 degrees, set in 2018.
Thursday's projected high increased to 107 degrees before Friday's high drops to 100 degrees amid the expected rainfall.
