LeBron James has officially entered free agency after informing the Lakers that he will not return for the upcoming season. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, during a live stream with Marc Stein, former championship teammate Kevin Love could be considered as a “plus-one” package deal for James, wherever he ends up. The two veterans have a strong history together, having won the 2016 NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers and recently reuniting in Europe to celebrate the team’s tenth anniversary.
This potential pairing has generated significant discussion, particularly regarding the Miami Heat as they await James’ decision. However, reports from HoopsHype and the Miami Herald indicate that while a reunion with Love in Miami cannot be entirely ruled out, it is not something the Heat have actively pursued thus far. Miami Heat President Pat Riley is currently navigating a strict payroll, operating under a $209 million hard cap.
A veteran NBA scout mentioned to the Miami Herald that Love “would make sense because of his connection with LeBron and the Heat,” particularly due to his passing skills and ability to create space on the floor. Nevertheless, the Heat’s priority list is focused on securing elite perimeter shooting or an athletic rim protector.
