The Minnesota Timberwolves have a new-look roster heading into the 2026-27 NBA season, adding LaMelo Ball in a blockbuster, four-team trade earlier this offseason.
This trade pairs Ball alongside Anthony Edwards to form one of the league’s most electrifying backcourt duos.
While this partnership is no doubt exciting for all those involved, Edwards recently acknowledged that there will be some growing pains when it comes to learning this new team dynamic.
“It’s definitely going to be ups and downs. First year together maybe a lot of downs. We’ll celebrate both of them. Celebrate the ups, celebrate the downs,” Edwards said during an interview with Taylor Rooks at a Fanatics Fest event in New York City.

Edwards is fresh off an impressive 2025-26 campaign that saw him average a career-high 28.8 points per game. And with Ball joining the team as a new primary ball handler, Edwards can shift to his more natural scoring position off the ball.

Edwards and Ball were both taken in the top three picks of the 2020 NBA Draft. Edwards went off the board No. 1 overall to Minnesota, and Ball went two picks later to Charlotte.
Ball averaged 20.8 points and 7.3 assists per game over his six-year career with the Hornets.
