J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray are both making their case to be the guy for the Minnesota Vikings.
This isn't a fun little competition. Sure, these two are teammates, but they both want to be the franchise quarterbacks, so this is a heated battle.
The Athletic has rounded up its list of the players in the NFL with the most on the line going into the 2026 season. One of these two quarterbacks made the cut. Can you guess which one?
Kyler Murray could be moving on up and fast
Murray is on the list, but it's not a negative thing. It's all positive. It's more like a chance for him to prove himself enough to take the reins.
"Every season presents opportunities for certain players to rewrite the narrative around their careers. This fall, Murray is one of those players," Alec Lewis of The Athletic said. "That’s why he signed with the Vikings, and partly why the Vikings signed him. They believe the fit will be mutually beneficial."
Lewis added that if Murray can win games, he'll set himself up for a "massive free-agent deal next spring. He'll enter training camp with a chance to establish himself as a starter and begin the process of changing the way he has been viewed."
So, Lewis sees this year as being a big opportunity for Murray. For McCarthy, not so much. Consider this a warning for the latter.
