Granite City workshop to connect employers and job seekers with disabilities

The Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services is helping job seekers in the Metro East.

The DRS is a division within the Illinois Department of Human Services. Job seekers who meet the Americans with Disabilities Act’s definition of having a disability can utilize DRS resources they and their employers may need for employment to be successful for both parties. Resources include access to assistive technology, American Sign Language interpreters, tax benefits and diversity and inclusion training.

The DRS is having an Accommodation for Success workshop on Sept. 22 at the Knights of Columbus, 4225 Old Alton Road in Granite City. This complimentary event will feature keynote speakers who will discuss how inclusive hiring environments have led to successful and profitable outcomes for their businesses. The workshop will also feature a reverse job fair where job seekers can showcase their skills and abilities. Registration is available through Eventbrite.

The Illinois group is also part of the local business services team with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act partners. They offer services to employers for recruitment and hiring, including incumbent worker training, layoff aversion and assistance, and small business grants.
