Wendy’s is speeding into summer with a new kids’ meal built for Sonic the Hedgehog fans.
Starting July 20, participating Wendy’s restaurants across the United States are offering a limited-time Sonic the Hedgehog Kids’ Meal featuring collectible character card cases and trading cards from the game franchise. The launch celebrates Sonic’s 35th anniversary and follows an earlier rollout in the U.K.
There are seven collectible card cases in total, each designed around a different character. The lineup includes Sonic, Amy Rose, Miles “Tails” Prower, Silver the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Rouge the Bat. Each case comes with five trading cards, bringing the full collection to 35 cards.
The meal includes a choice of two-piece chicken tenders, four-piece chicken nuggets, a hamburger, or a cheeseburger. Customers can pair the entrée with Jr. fries or apple bites, plus a kids’ drink.
The promotion is available now through early September at participating Wendy’s locations, as well as through the Wendy’s app and website, while supplies last. Collectibles may vary by restaurant, so anyone trying to complete the full set may need more than one visit, and probably a little luck.
Sonic has been racing through video games since 1991, and the character has expanded into movies, television, merchandise, and plenty of fast food collaborations over the years. This time, Wendy’s is keeping things simple by giving fans something they can actually collect, rather than adding a complicated, themed menu item.
For kids, it is a new toy with lunch. For adults who grew up playing Sonic, it is another excuse to order nuggets and see whether Shadow or Knuckles shows up in the box.
