God of War is looking for its new Kratos.
God of War is an upcoming fantasy drama series created by Ronald D. Moore for Prime Video. It is an adaptation of Santa Monica Studio's video game series of the same name. The show will follow Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel through the Nine Realms to fulfill Kratos' late wife and Atreus' mother, Faye's final wish by scattering her ashes from the highest peak.
After original Kratos actor Ryan Hurst was severely injured on the set of God of War, it has now been confirmed that he is giving up the role so he can recover. It was reported on Thursday, July 16, that the accident was so bad that the actor needed to get surgery on his bicep after a stunt went wrong. An exclusive from Deadline reveals that the main character of the upcoming video game adaptation will be recast.
Several insiders told TMZ revealed in the earlier report that the nature of his injuries would require several months of recovery time. And, due to how physically demanding the role is, filming would have to be pushed back until 2027, at the very least, in order for Hurst to portray the character safely. As a result, recasting Kratos was probably the best option for all parties involved.
