It's Confirmed: Constantine Is Finally Returning

Constantine is finally making a triumphant return to form in a brand-new release scheduled for next year, mark your calendars now.

There may not be a more iconic antihero than John Constantine, the chain-smoking occult detective who has spent decades battling demons, angels, and every supernatural horror imaginable. Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, John Totleben, and later developed into the star of DC's Hellblazer series, Constantine first appeared in The Saga of the Swamp Thing back in 1985 before becoming a fan-favorite with a devoted following across comics, television, film, and video games.

Although Constantine has appeared in numerous adaptations, fans still hold a special appreciation for Keanu Reeves' 2005 film, while Matt Ryan's comic-accurate portrayal across Constantine, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and the wider "Arrowverse" is widely hailed as well. With Constantine 2 still in development after what feels like forever and the character being absent from live-action for several years, longtime fans have been eagerly waiting for the legendary occult detective to finally make his long-awaited return.

Fortunately, that wait is over, as Constantine is officially confirmed to make a return in a brand-new release in 2027 (via YouTube).

Constantine is making an official return in the upcoming DC release slated for 2027, DKCO, a newly announced free-to-play mobile fighting game from developer Drop Fake, created in partnership with Warner Bros.

The game promises to bring arcade-style fighter combat to iOS and Android devices, with pre-registration already live and the studio planning to support the game through regular content updates, including new playable characters such as John Constantine, shown in the trailer below.

Unlike traditional one-on-one fighters, DCKO revolves around 2v2 tag-team battles and real-time PvP combat, as well as a story-driven PvE element. Players can assemble teams of iconic DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains, chaining together light and heavy attacks into lengthy combos before unleashing powerful Super Moves.

The game will feature a tag-in combo attack mechanic, dual-character Super Moves, assists, throws, and counter-techs, all designed as an accessible mobile-friendly co-op experience for hardcore DC fans. Characters can also be customized with interchangeable Super Moves and upgraded over time to suit different playstyles.

The launch roster features many of DC's biggest names, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Raven, Lex Luthor, Doomsday, and of course, fan-favorite occult detective John Constantine.

His inclusion is particularly noteworthy given the renewed interest surrounding the character for the upcoming Constantinesequel, finally giving John another major video game appearance alongside some of DC's most beloved heroes and villains. Drop Fake has also confirmed that additional "Legends" will be introduced regularly following launch, expanding the DCKO roster well beyond its initial lineup.
