"Top Gun: Maverick" actor Glen Powell is reportedly going to play legendary New York Yankees slugger Lou Gehrig.
According to Deadline's Justin Kroll, a biopic on Gehrig will be directed by Richard Linklater and produced by lifelong Yankee fan Lorne Michaels. Universal Studios has already decided that Powell will play Gehrig in this film.
Linklater is known for directing a handful of beloved movies, including "Before Sunset" and "Dazed and Confused." He also made a college baseball film called "Everybody Wants Some!" that just so happened to have Powell in its cast.
Judging by the early responses online, MLB fans are cautiously optimistic about Linklater and Powell's upcoming project.
"Linklater directing Powell as Lou Gehrig? That’s a home run," one fan wrote on X.
"I just watched 'How To Make A Killing' and it wasn't bad, Powell has a ton of range and he's an enjoyable actor," a second fan said. "I think he knocks this out of the park."

Gehrig, who exclusively suited up for the Yankees, is widely regarded as one of the best players in the history of baseball. The seven-time All-Star and six-time World Series champion finished his Hall of Fame career with 2,721 hits and 493 home runs.
Not only was Gehrig incredibly productive, he was historically durable, appearing in 2,130 consecutive games. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 1939. This illness, which is now referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease," forced him to retire from baseball.
The MLB community lost Gehrig on June 2, 1941. He was only 37 years old.
