SEC trash-talking is a year-round event and newly-minted Florida head coach Jon Sumrall is happy to be a part of it. His target is his new rival, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin.
During SEC Media Days, Sumrall responded to a recent comment from Kiffin where he compared their two offseasons. Sumrall apparently took exception to what Kiffin said, pointing out that he's making the transition from Tulane to the SEC. He also took a dig at Kiffin for leaving Ole Miss right before the team's College Football Playoff run, declaring that he wouldn't have taken a new job if it meant not being able to coach in the postseason.
"Lane said we're going through the same thing. I said no we're not. You're leaving an SEC school. I'm leaving Tulane. If any university said I couldn't coach in the playoff, I don't think I would have taken the job," Sumrall said.
Response from Fans
LSU fans were incensed by Sumrall's comments, calling him a liar or a bad hire. Other SEC fans were delighted to see Sumrall cook Kiffin the way that he did.
"That is a lie! If he had a chance to go to a better school from Ole Miss, he would’ve done the same thing! I will never believe that. Everyone in this world will take a better job when offered to them," one LSU fan replied on X.
"Holly cook that bum Lane Kiffin. Modern day Judas," a Tennessee fan wrote.
"That's why you're at UF for 3 years and into the dustbin of bad hires," wrote another LSU fan.
"Jon is twice the coach that Lane is. Lane can only succeed if he can have a roster worth tens of millions and a QB that is pushing 30."

"No coach is turning down Florida to stay at Tulane. I don’t care what he says. He was going to Florida (once it was offered) either way."
It's a shame Florida and LSU don't play against each other this season. That would have been some prime bulletin board material.
