We're still a few years away from the opening of the new Kansas City Chiefs stadium, but the first renderings of what it's expected to look like have been revealed.
On Wednesday the team released four images of what the new stadium is being designed to look like. The stadium is being designed to seat 70,000 fans and amplify the noise they make. One of the most notable changes to the new stadium from the current Arrowhead Stadium is the addition of a glass roof.
"A legacy reimagined. Every detail of our new stadium honors our past as we innovate for the future. Our home will amplify 70,000 of the world’s loudest fans, facilitate world-class tailgating, and preserve our unrivaled homefield advantage. We’re thrilled to share our first official renderings with you," the team said in the Wednesday morning post.
Reaction from Fans
NFL fans were intrigued but not overwhelmingly thrilled about some of the design choices that were presented. Some feel that the roof idea is terrible while others think it just lacked creativity. But others were excited for the prospect of getting to host a Super Bowl in it for a change.
"The glass roof is a terrible idea. The whole project is too small with not enough suites or seats. The coloration looks like a five year old used AI for a fridge picture. Who approved this? Looks bad, feels bad, sells bad," one user on X remarked.
"Really digging it. More importantly, keeping the tailgating alive and the capacity near what it is now," wrote another.
"That's literally arrowhead with a roof... Not bad but would like to see a bit more techy upgrade/feel that's adds an iconic feature just like Jerry world or Atlanta did," a third wrote.
"As long as we get a Super Bowl I’ll be happy."
"That glass roof is only going to create a hot/gross feeling greenhouse inside for fans! and just makes it harder to cool with HVAC. Go dome or open air."
Arrowhead Stadium has served as the home of the Kansas City Chiefs for over 50 years. But the team was unable to reach a new stadium deal with Kansas City, Missouri and will be moving the team to Wyandotte County, Kansas in 2031, at which point Arrowhead Stadium will be demolished.
