The X-Filesare reopened, as Mulder and Scully return in a new LEGO set.
The set is part of the LEGO Ideas line, with fans submitting ideas. The ideas are then considered for a set depending on votes. The X-Files won the "Build Your Nostalgia – 90s Throwback" contest. It beat out Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 1995's Jumanji, and The Fifth Element. The idea came from Australian designer and 3-D artist Brent Waller.
The LEGO Group officially unveiled The X-Files, which features Gillian Anderson slipping right back into her seminal role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully. The actor, channeling Scully, hears a knock on her hotel room door. She opens it to find the package and begins recording her observations, just as Scully would when examining a corpse. From there, however, things take a spooky turn. Check it out below:
It includes a replica of Mulder's office. There's also a forest setting, a common location for the series, especially in its early days. The mini-figures include Fox Mulder, Scully, and Walter Skinner, the main trio, as well as secondary characters such as Mr. X and Alex Krycek. There's no shortage of villains either, with the Cigarette Smoking Man, The Flukeman and a grey alien.
For the main set, there are 1,478 pieces and eight mini-figures. There are plenty of details in the set that would appeal to an X-Files enthusiast. That includes a tiny 'I Want to Believe' poster and even some deeper cuts in Mulder's office, such as his habit of chewing on sunflower seeds. Check them out in the photo below:
The set will be available to purchase for Lego Insiders Early Access members on August 1 for the price of $199.99. It will then be available to the public beginning on August 4. Those who purchase the set between August 1 and August 10 will also get a bonus set of Scully's lab. That includes her classroom lab at the FBI National Academy, along with a mini-figure of Scully wearing her lab coat and scrubs.
The official announcement of the LEGO set comes amid the continued anticipation of whether Hulu will pick up itsX-Filespilot, which is written and directed by Oscar winner Ryan Coogler. The lead roles are played by Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, with no word on whether Anderson and Duchovny will reprise their roles if the pilot moves forward.
