gamescom 2026 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest shows in the event’s history, with organizers confirming that all available exhibition space has sold out.
You read that right: gamescom 2026 has sold out all its available exhibition space, marking the first time the Cologne gaming event has reached capacity ahead of the show. With about a month to go before things get underway, this show is shaping up to be an epic event for fans, media and everyone who loves gaming. Organizers say the milestone follows a record-setting 2025 event and signals continued demand from publishers, developers and gaming communities worldwide.
Running Aug. 26 to 30 in Cologne, Germany, with Aug. 26th reserved for trade visitors and media, gamescom is one of the world’s biggest gaming events, attracting thousands of visitors to the city every year. While the show itself is massive, gamescom is far more expansive than the show floor, drawing developers, press and other industry members to a week of gaming that begins Aug. 24 with the gamescom dev conference. gamescom Opening Night Live returns Aug. 25 with Geoff Keighley and co-host Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere. The livestreamed showcase will include announcements, world premieres and updates from across the industry.
“That gamescom is completely booked up is a strong signal for the entire industry,” gamescom director Tim Endres said in a statement. “We only just expanded the area last year, so are all the more pleased with the increasing demand.”
Organizers Koelnmesse and game — The German Games Industry Association — are now exploring an expansion for 2027. The goal is to accommodate further exhibitor interest while improving the on-site experience for attendees.
This year’s gamescom promises a broad mix of major publishers, platform holders and international studios, including Nintendo, XBOX, Ubisoft, Capcom, Bandai Namco, CD PROJEKT RED, Electronic Arts, SEGA, Konami, Tencent Games, KRAFTON, HoYoverse and Level Infinite. The expanded exhibitor slate also includes Embark Studios, GIANTS Software, Aerosoft, NetEase and The LEGO Group, giving the Cologne event a sizable mix of AAA, mobile, PC and indie-facing companies.
Even better, with still about a month to go until the big event, there is already a good idea of what fans can expect when they attend this year, with some major games already confirmed to be in attendance. XBOX is expected to bring Gears of War: E-Day, while CD PROJEKT RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past has been confirmed to make an appearance. Capcom’s booth is set to feature Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Mega Man: Dual Override, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Street Fighter 6, with the latter also supporting tournament and community programming.
If that were not enough, KRAFTON will arrive with one of the event’s more ambitious lineups, led by an unannounced PUBG Studios game alongside NO LAW, Project ZETA, Age Twisters and TARAE: The Unbound. Meanwhile, the Indie Arena Booth is expected to bring together 11 delegations, 17 publishers and more than 180 developers, underscoring how much space gamescom continues to give smaller teams alongside blockbuster publishers.
The show’s programming will also broaden its focus to fan communities. The gamescom event arena is being repositioned as a social stage, featuring programming such as a cosplay contest and a DidYouKnowGaming panel quiz. Games Done Quick will make its European gamescom debut with a three-day speedrunning program that will raise donations for the Gaming for Democracy initiative.
Meanwhile, gamescom is expanding its Awesome Indies show in partnership with IGN, while the event’s updated location finder will add filters for features including accessible washrooms and free water dispensers. The changes position gamescom not only as a showcase for major releases, but also as an increasingly broad gathering point for the people and communities behind gaming.
gamescom has long been a major part of the gaming calendar, and given how 2026 is shaping up, it looks to be one of the biggest events fans can attend, bringing together a massive community excited to experience what gaming has in store.
