Resident Evil step aside, the Dino Crisis remake is finally upon us

Dino Crisis is the one survival horror IP that could possibly topple the excitement fans have for Resident Evil, and a remake could be here soon.

Even though Capcom had remade the first Resident Evil game in 2002, the remake floodgates hadn’t truly burst until it remade its sequel in 2019, following the momentous and franchise-defining launch of Resident Evil 7.

Ever since, fans have been treated to remakes interspersed with mainline titles, and it seems as if fans have only seen the tip of the iceberg from Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes, given that Resident Evil Veronica was recently announced and Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 0, and more are rumored to be getting remakes, as well.

However, Capcom’s remake ambitions may not be exclusive to Resident Evil. If rumors are to be believed, it’s possible that a remake is in the works for Dino Crisis, one of the most highly anticipated remakes ever, which would effectively revive the fossil that is Capcom’s dinosaur survival horror franchise.

On Facebook, leaker Team Biohazard claims that not only is a Dino Crisis remake in development, but that it’s been in development since 2022. If there’s any potential leak/rumor that survival horror fans would hope to be true, it’s surely this one.

If a Dino Crisis remake has been in development for four years already, there’s effectively no telling how soon it could theoretically be released. A release in 2027 wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility, for instance, though 2028 would seem more likely, if anything, due to Resident Evil Veronica already being slated to come out next year.

What would be exciting is if Capcom released a roadmap of consecutive Resident Evil and Dino Crisis games. There are certainly nowhere near as many Dino Crisis games as there are Resident Evil games, but, based on how grievously fans have longed for a Dino Crisis 1 remake and how successful it would inevitably be, there could be at least a couple of Dino Crisis remakes arriving in the near future (Dino Crisis 1 and Dino Crisis 2, the most popular of the franchise, and whose original games were recently ported to Steam).

Likewise, what would be terrific is if the success of a Dino Crisis 1 remake resulted in the development of a brand-new entry in the franchise. Players could then expect to see comparably stunning visuals and horrific dinosaur enemies realized on next-gen hardware, probably alongside whatever style of gameplay is inherited by the remake.

All fans would need is for Capcom to remake Dino Crisis with the same level of quality and care that it’s been remaking most of its Resident Evil games with, and it’d be a huge avenue to explore in survival horror.

This way, while Resident Evil’s popularity skyrockets, so too could Dino Crisis be entering a great new era. Until anything official is shared, though, fans should steel themselves for disappointment.
