A custom-built 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS that blends genuine muscle car heritage with modern performance is heading to auction at the Harrisburg 2026 sale. Offered as Lot S227, the coupe crosses the block on Saturday, July 25th.

The car carries added significance because it began as a factory Super Sport, confirmed by its 138 VIN designation. That authentic starting point sets it apart from many custom builds that begin with lesser models. From there, the Chevelle received a frame-off build that touched nearly every part of the car.

Powering the coupe is a modern 6.2-liter Gen V LT-based V-8 topped with a Whipple supercharger and fed by electronic fuel injection, a combination that delivers strong contemporary output. The engine compartment has been smoothed and detailed for a clean, finished appearance. Backing the engine is a six-speed manual transmission operated by a Hurst shifter, sending power to a 12-bolt Positraction rear axle.

The chassis has been upgraded for improved handling, with a QA1 performance suspension that includes tubular front control arms and a rear coilover setup. An MBRP dual exhaust system, power steering, and Wilwood four-wheel power disc brakes round out the mechanical improvements. The car sits on staggered U.S. Mags alloy wheels.

Outside, the Chevelle wears a custom Metallic Red finish, with billet hood hinges and a finished underside of the hood adding to the attention to detail.

Inside, the cabin features custom Cream bucket seats and a custom center console. Modern conveniences include Vintage Air climate control, a billet steering wheel, and a Dakota Digital instrument system that updates the dash while keeping a clean look. Music lovers will appreciate the custom trunk audio system, which houses dual Rockford Fosgate subwoofers for added sound.

A collector judging this 1954 Kurtis 500S now offered on Bring a Trailer by the usual standards of originality will quickly find reasons to hesitate. Its fiberglass body is a replacement. Its 331-cubic-inch Cadillac V8 was assembled from two engines.
