What a year it’s turning out to be for Zendaya; she was recently seen in the third and final season of HBO’s Euphoria, and before that, she starred alongside Robert Pattinson in the sleeper hit film The Drama. This month, she will star in two movies that are poised to become billion-dollar hits. First up is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which will be released in theaters worldwide this Friday, and only two weeks later, she will star in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland in the titular role. That’s not all. Later this year, Zendaya will reprise her role as Chani in Dune: Part Three. While it’s one thing for massive tent poles to live up to expectations and emerge as blockbusters, it’s a whole different thing altogether for Zendaya to push movies like The Drama to box-office success with her stardom. She achieved a similar feat not too long ago with a critically acclaimed hit aimed at adult audiences.
The movie is currently streaming on Peacock, but not for much longer. It was released theatrically in 2024, grossing nearly $100 million worldwide against a reported budget of $55 million. Distributed by Amazon MGM, the movie may well have been given a theatrical run to boost awareness of it ahead of its Prime Video release. But unlike films such as Mercy, the sci-fi mystery starring Chris Prattand Rebecca Ferguson, and Red One, the Christmas-themed action-adventure film headlined by Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, Zendaya’s film was a success theatrically as well.

By now you’ve probably guessed that we’re talking about the steamy romantic drama Challengers, set in the world of professional tennis. The movie received widespread acclaim and is now sitting at a “Certified Fresh” 88% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, “With its trio of outstanding performers volleying their star power back and forth without ever dropping the ball, Challengers is a kinetic and sexy romp at court.” You can watch the film on Peacock before it’s removed from the platform on August 1.
