First Look at Disney's Live-Action 'Tangled' Movie Reveals Rapunzel & Flynn Rider

On-set photos reveal the first look of Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.

Despite the poor box office performance of Moana, Disney is not slowing down production on their live-action remakes. Tangled, a remake of the 2010 animated film of the same name, is currently filming. Directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), Tangled is set to star Teagan Croft (Titans) as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim (School Spirits) as Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along) as Mother Gothel.

The first set photos from the production of Tangled have surfaced online, revealing unofficial looks of Croft and Manheim as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. Croft is seen only from behind, but the character's hair is styled into a massive braid, as in the animated film's floating lanterns scene in the city of Corona. Manheim is wearing an accurate representation of Flynn's costume. Check out the images below:

A live-action Tangled was first announced in 2024, but the project was put on hold following the disappointing box office performance of Snow White in March 2025. However, after Lilo & Stitch grossed $1 billion worldwide, Disney fast-tracked Tangled. Scarlett Johansson was originally in talks to play Mother Gothel, but the actress passed on the role due to commitments to Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist and Matt Reeves' The Batman — Part II.

Tangled currently has no set release date. With filming having begun in June 2026, the movie is likely aiming for a late 2027 or 2028 release date. Aside from Star Wars: Starfighter and Beach Read, Disney nor any of its subsidiaries have anything slated for the summer 2027 schedule. Disney has saved Feb. 18, 2028, for an untitled film, but that would put Tangled up against The Batman — Part II's new release date. Disney also has Nov. 10, 2028, saved on the release schedule. Given the original Tangled opened in November 2010, it would be a fitting way to celebrate the film's 18th anniversary.

With Moana recently opening to a disappointing $43 million weekend, there is more pressure put on Tangled. Fortunately, the live-action remake has a few key advantages. The first is that the movie has a larger gap between the original animated film and the remake than Moana does, which is only a 10-year gap. Tangled also never got a sequel, while Moana 2 released just two years ahead of the live-action remake. If executed properly, Tangled has the potential to be another Lilo & Stitch-style surprise.
