The Space Force this week identified a 23-year-old Filipino American airman as the victim of a freak accident at Vandenberg Space Force Base in Central California near Santa Maria.
Times Now reports Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna died Thursday when heavy equipment rolled down an embankment and apparently struck and killed him.
Born in the Philippines, he moved to St. Louis before joining the military in 2024. He considered Fayetteville, North Carolina as his hometown. Eneluna worked with the Dirt Boyz, the name given to pavement and equipment specialists in the Air Force.
No one else was hurt in the accident.
“He brought out the best in everyone,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Seth Poulsen, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron commander to Military Times. “He was always ready to work, always willing to help, and always had a positive attitude. He truly represented what it means to be an Airman.”
The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. The Inquirer reports that the Safety Investigation Board has been called to look further into the accident.
A Safety Investigation Board has been convened to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Base officials said no additional details would be released while the investigation is underway.
“Our Vandenberg family is grieving alongside Cedric’s loved ones and his teammates,” US Space Force Col. James T. Horne III, commander of Vandenberg Space Force Base, said in a statement. “He made a lasting impression on his teammates through his character, dedication and genuine care for others. On behalf of Team Vandenberg, I extend my deepest condolences to Cedric’s family, friends and fellow airmen during this incredibly difficult time.”
