NIKKI NEWMAN FACES HER SCARIEST MOMENT YET

TL;DR: Nikki Newman finally has her bandages removed with heartbreaking results, Traci Abbott faces off with Martin Laurent and comes away rattled, and Phyllis Summers tries to hand Matt Clark an entirely new life.

Nikki Newman’s Family Braces for Her Appointment

At the ranch, Nikki Newman sits at her window before moving to her dressing table to brush her hair, praying she’ll finally see herself again by the end of the day. Victor Newman tells Nick Newman and Victoria Newman their mother is anxious about the appointment, and the three agree to get her through it together.

While Victoria heads up to bring her mother down, Victor checks Matt Clark‘s ankle monitor and notices he hasn’t skipped town after all. Nick fills his father in on why: Matt spent the night in Phyllis Summers‘s suite after Nick caught them kissing and got locked out of the room entirely.

Nick thinks Matt’s kicked-puppy act shouldn’t be fooling Phyllis, but Victor is more annoyed that she’s mooning over Matt instead of resurrecting the company he handed her. Victoria brings Nikki downstairs, and Nick urges positive energy. Nikki asks if Victor is coming, and her kids assure her he wouldn’t miss it.

Traci Abbott Faces Martin Laurent Over Video Call

At the Abbott estate, Traci Abbott tells Kyle, Diane, and Jack she’s ready to face Martin Laurent, asking them to stay silent while she makes the call. Martin lights up at the sight of her and asks if she’s gotten his letters, guessing she isn’t calling to reminisce about old times.

Traci explains that Markham has partnered with the man who once terrorized Martin and is now hiding from everyone. He calls Markham a sociopath with narcissistic tendencies whose research is worthless, but admits he and Markham crossed paths a few times at a shared summer house. He’ll only give her the address in exchange for a favor.

Traci refuses to grant him anything, but he asks anyway: he wants to see her in person, away from the doctors who’d turn this into another paper on him. He insists he isn’t a lab rat and wants to look in the eyes of the woman he loves.Traci agrees to arrange a meeting and ends the call.

Once it’s over, Traci admits that was far harder than she expected, and the family can tell Martin got under her skin, even though she gave him nothing concrete. Jack pushes his sister to skip the in-person meeting altogether. Traci insists she isn’t afraid of Martin, even as she agrees to let the family hunt down the property so she doesn’t actually have to see him face-to-face.

Nikki Newman Has Her Bandages Removed

At the doctor’s office, Nikki’s doctor warns that the optic nerve is delicate, and whatever she experiences right after the bandages come off may not be the final outcome either way. She asks to bring someone in, but he can only allow one, so Victor Newman joins her as the doctor peels the bandages away.

Shuddering, Nikki cries out that everything is black.

Phyllis Summers Offers Matt Clark a Fresh Start

At Society, Matt worries the restaurant is owned by Abby, but Phyllis brushes it off as no threat at all. She paints a picture of what staying in Genoa City could look like for him, parks, friendly faces, a real life, though he points out he’d need money and a job to make any of it real.

When Phyllis asks what he’s good at, he deadpans that it’s terrorizing people. She insists his past doesn’t define him, and when he questions why she’s bothering, she admits she’s been exactly where he is and made it out the other side.

Phyllis explains that Victor handed her a company as a joke, and she intends to prove it’s something real, with Matt’s help. He doubts himself, joking his only real business experience is running bars and drug rings, but Phyllis argues that only makes him good with people. When he teases that she’s falling for him, she insists this is about friendship, not the kiss.
