Dave Portnoy has taken NFL legend Tom Brady to task over some of his recent antics involving Jake Paul. The Las Vegas Raiders minority owner has been trying his hand at a number of different projects since retiring.
There is no bigger name in the history of American Football than Tom Brady, and some may say there is no bigger name in American sport as a whole. For that reason, people still pay very close attention to Brady’s every move, even since he called time on his illustrious playing career.
He is still involved with NFL thanks to his role as an executive with the Raiders, but he is not content with staying in the football bubble. Some of his latest ventures have not come without criticism, though.
What did Dave Portnoy say about Tom Brady?
Tom Brady has started to enter the world of professional wrestling, and that has led him to be involved in two publicity stunts over the weekend. His partner in crime was YouTuber-turned-boxer and wrestler Logan Paul.
The first incident saw Brady slap Paul at Fanatics Fest in New York. Then, Brady was seen at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, and he was caught giving Paul the finger on video. Dave Portnoy couldn’t contain his dismay at what Brady had been getting up to, and he took the New England Patriots legend to task on ‘Wake Up Barstool’.
“This to me is one of the great downfalls of an icon with Tom Brady. The way he is acting post-retirement, it’s a legacy that is being lamified. I use that word; people are like what does that mean? It means he’s becoming very lame,” Portnoy began.
“And it’s a guy, who very few athletes, Michael Jordan, [Lionel] Messi, [David] Beckham, [Wayne] Gretzky, these are superstars that seem so above the fray, that you don’t want to see them mixed up in all sorts of low-brow, Tik-Tok, flag football leagues in Saudi Arabia, or whatever it is. The wrestling. Everything about him is cringy right now to me. And it’s highlighted with this wrestling stuff.”
Later in the video, Brandon Walker actually likened Brady to the Hawk Tuah girl, saying: “He has become somebody who looks like he is trying to get to a spotlight, trying to get attention … and Tom Brady shouldn’t have to do things designed for your entertainment.”
