A Kansas City Chiefs Instagram post on June 19 featured Xavier Worthy, Nick Bolton, and George Karlaftis in basketball jerseys. Then Patrick Mahomes entered the comments, turning a joke into a viral moment with a cheeky shot at Worthy.

“@worthyyy can’t hoop! Don’t let him lie!” Mahomes commented, taking a cheeky jab at his WR.

Inside the Chiefs’ training facility, also known as The University of Kansas Health System Training Facility, sits a basketball hoop above the locker room showers, a favorite hangout spot for players.

It’s where they compete, trade jokes, and build team chemistry. Judging by Mahomes’ comment, though, it seems Xavier may not be the sharpest shooter there.

Down in the comments section of the same post, Xavier Worthy joined the banter with a playful jab of his own.

“I look like I’m finna go get 30,” Worthy commented.

The basketball hoop is one of the most important parts of the training facility, as the players themselves believe it helps build team chemistry like nothing else.

“We have some battles, man,” Kelce said back in 2019, per the Athletic. “It builds a brotherhood. It builds a family. It’s little stuff like that, and the stuff that we do out in the community, where it’s another way for us to connect, communicate and be more comfortable around each other. You’ve got to cherish it.”

The Chiefs have a rich basketball culture despite being a football franchise. It dates back decades to founder Lamar Hunt, who once managed an entire NFL basketball team for charity events.

With the team chemistry as strong as ever, the Chiefs await Patrick Mahomes’ return to the field for a Week 1 clash against divisional rivals Denver Broncos.

Insider gives latest updates on Patrick Mahomes’ comeback

With the recovery progressing well, Mahomes has been focused on returning for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 showdown against the Denver Broncos on Sept 14.

The star QB has been adamant about returning as soon as possible, and NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes he could.

“There’s an expectation among Chiefs people that Mahomes will be fully cleared this week, and also the knowledge that when they tell him he can go, he will really go,” Breer wrote on June 20. “So the plan is to be smart with it, and make sure everyone is doing what’s going to put him in the best position to be at his best from September through February, not just ready for Week 1.”

Breer believes that with training camp approaching, Patrick Mahomes is expected to report alongside other Kansas City quarterbacks and rookies this Friday.

Although the Chiefs front office has added Justin Fields as his backup, they plan to give Mahomes every opportunity to lead.
