Football season is only weeks away, and DIRECTV's latest initiative is aimed at making it easier for fans to watch their favorite teams.
If you're a big fan, you've probably already begun planning out your weekends--and some Monday and Thursday nights--around your team's games. But scheduling is only one part of the equation; figuring out what channel or streaming service your team is on is an entirely different issue.
DIRECTV says it has ways to simplify matters for fans, complete with a new ad campaign featuring Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley and his patented "hurdle" to illustrate the obstacles viewers have to go through to find a game.
"I'm excited and honored for the opportunity that they've given me," Barkley told Men's Journal in a recent interview, adding that he had "a lot of fun" shooting the campaign spot.
"We're trying to bring a lot more eyes to the game of football. Not just the NFL, but college football too...As a well-known player in the NFL, I'm all about bringing more eyes to the game and grow it as much as we can. I think DIRECTV is doing a great job with that."
What is DIRECTV offering?
The campaign centers around two components: DIRECTV's Gemini device and Sports Central. The latter gives subscribers with Gemini devices the ability to access any football game, no matter where it is being broadcast. Sports Central merges live TV and streaming subscriptions into "one intuitive experience without switching inputs, making it easier to find NFL and college football, follow every matchup, and never miss the moments that matter."
"Football fans shouldn't have to navigate an obstacle course just to watch games," said Vince Torres, chief marketing officer at DIRECTV in a press release. "For more than 30 years, DIRECTV has been the home of football, and we’ve stayed focused on making the game easier to find and easier to enjoy, even as the viewing experience has become more complex. By bringing together live games, streaming apps, and everything fans want in one seamless experience, we’re removing the hurdles so fans can spend less time searching and more time watching.”
Additionally, DIRECTV customers can pick the MySports Genre Pack®, which includes access to every major sporting network, including ESPN, FOX, FS1, BTN, ACC Network, ABC, MLB Network, NFL Network and NBATV.
The MySports Genre Pack also includes ESPN Unlimited, which is also accessible for all DIRECTV Signature satellite and streaming customers who have ESPN included in their base package.
