July 22 marks an important day in comedy history, as one of the "greatest comedians of all time" was born on this day 62 years ago.
Wednesday marked the birthdays of many celebrities, including actors Willem Dafoe (1955) and Danny Glover (1946), along with former NFL wide receivers Tim Brown (1966) and Keyshawn Johnson (1972).
And on July 22, 1964, comedian/actor David Spade was born in Birmingham, Michigan, to his mother, Judith J., and his father, Wayne M. "Sam" Spade. Four years later, the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, before Spade's parents split up.
Spade began his career in stand-up comedy, making his acting debut in 1987's Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. He earned his big break in 1990, becoming a cast member on the hit show Saturday Night Live.
Spade has gone on to create many hit movies during his career, including Grandma's Boy (2006), The Emperor's New Groove (2000) and Grown Ups (2010). But his biggest hit was the 1995 classic Tommy Boy, starring alongside Chris Farley.

Spade has continued to build his solid career in 2026, earning roles in two different movies, including Outcome and Busboys. And his career has been good enough to make him one of the best comedians we've ever seen.
And IMDb would agree, recently rating Spade as No. 76 on its 100 Greatest Comedians of All Time. The site also noted Spade's 2001 comedy Joe Dirt in the ranking.
While Spade is a legend in his own right, he still has a long way to go to catch the likes of IMDb's top three comedians, which include No. 1 Charles Chaplin, No. 2 Robin Williams and No. 3 Jim Carrey.
