Devin Williams gets candid about his first Milwaukee appearance since nightmare Brewers moment

For the first time since 2024, former Milwaukee Brewers star closer Devin Williams pitched in his old stomping grounds, as he closed out the ninth inning for the New York Mets in Wednesday night’s game against the Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee.

Williams pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the job done for the Mets, who came away with a 4-0 victory over his former team.

It was a meaningful mound appearance for Williams, whose last appearance there prior to Wednesday was in Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Round between the Brewers and the Mets in the 2024 campaign. In that game, Williams gave up Pete Alonso’s clutch go-ahead three-run home run in the ninth inning.

Following the game, Williams shared his true feelings about being a pitcher for the visiting team in Milwaukee.

“It was a weird feeling sitting in the opposing bullpen,” Williams said, via SNY Mets on X (formerly Twitter). “But it was good, put up a zero and helped us get the win.”

Williams had faced the Brewers before following his decision to sign with the New York Yankees in the winter of 2024, but it was only on Wednesday when he finally did so as a visitor at Milwaukee’s home.

So far in the 2026 MLB season, Williams has a 3-2 record, 4.54 ERA and 14 saves for the Mets.
