The Green Bay Packers enter the 2026 campaign with legitimate championship expectations after making aggressive moves to strengthen the roster, including last season’s blockbuster acquisition of Micah Parsons. Even so, one Packers insider believes a lingering weakness could prevent Green Bay from separating itself in what is expected to be another highly competitive NFC North race.
Packers reporter Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated recently evaluated the quarterback position ahead of training camp, highlighting both the team’s strengths and potential concerns. In his analysis, Huber pointed to one area where Jordan Love may still trail Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, raising an issue Green Bay will need to address entering the 2026 season.
Huber’s biggest concern centered on Love’s production when plays broke down. According to his evaluation, the Packers quarterback was unable to consistently create explosive plays while facing pressure in 2025, an area where Caleb Williams already excels and one that separates many of the NFL’s elite signal-callers.

“Last season, 38 quarterbacks faced at least 85 under-pressure dropbacks. Love was the only one of those quarterbacks who did not throw a touchdown pass,” commented the Packers insider.
“The league median was five. Love had zero touchdowns and four interceptions; Caleb Williams threw seven touchdowns with one interception.”
Although Love remained productive by most standards in 2025, the season represented a step back compared to his previous campaigns as Green Bay’s starter. He finished with 3,381 passing yards, 23 touchdown passes, and just six interceptions, respectable numbers overall, but perhaps not the level of quarterback play the Packers will need to consistently compete with the NFL’s top contenders.
Huber was especially critical of Love’s performance under duress, going so far as to describe him as “one of the worst under-pressure quarterbacks in the league.”
Green Bay’s championship hopes could ultimately hinge on whether Love can overcome that weakness. If his struggles against defensive pressure continue into 2026, the Packers may once again find themselves falling short when the competition intensifies in the postseason.
