Dennis Rodman has never been afraid to do things his own way, and his latest comments at Fanatics Fest continued in the same fashion. The Hall of Famer, who has gone viral for his recent wild stories and statements, shared yet another story about why he never wore Michael Jordan’s signature shoes, even when the two were winning championships together with the Chicago Bulls.
Rodman said that despite playing alongside the face of Nike and arguably the most famous athlete in history, he never once wore a pair of Air Jordans during games. Nor did Jordan ever gift him any shoes.
“When I was playing in Chicago, I never wore Michael Jordan shoes, ever… Michael didn’t give me st. I worked with Nike on Indestruct, and it sold more than Mike. And Mike was pissed. Michael used to always talk to me and say, ‘Dennis, fk you.’ I said, ‘F**k you? What about your shoes? I’m selling mine.’ So I’m like, ‘Really? Great, that’s cool.'”
“So yeah, but he wanted that logo. He wanted that style, but they gave it to me… I didn’t care about the damn shoe. I just wanted the championship.”

The story highlights the extremely competitive personalities that defined the Bulls dynasty of the 1990s. Jordan wanted to dominate everything on the court, but he was just as ruthless when it came to business. Rodman, meanwhile, wasn’t interested in following anyone else’s footsteps, even if it meant going against the biggest sports brand in the world.
Despite the rivalry off the court, Rodman and Jordan were determined to dominate on it. Together with Scottie Pippen, the Bulls won three straight championships from 1996 to 1998, and Rodman established himself as one of the greatest defenders and rebounders in NBA history.

He also shared a story about missing a Bulls game during the historic 72-10 season because he spent the night gambling and partying at casinos and strip clubs. Rodman said the team had grown so accustomed to his behavior that it simply sent a private plane to bring him back.
Rodman also claimed that he would have been a billionaire if social media had existed during his playing days. Considering his larger-than-life personality and the stories he continues to tell, that might not be an unreasonable claim. He also said he would have shut down LeBron James with ease, calling him the easiest player he would have ever guarded. Those comments sparked massive debate and backlash among fans.
