Whenever LeBron James mentions Michael Jordan's name, everybody has something to say about it. That's exactly what happened when King James once talked about how he and Jordan would've made a spectacular duo.
LeBron was confident that his "best assets work perfectly with Mike." As expected, fans quickly reacted to the four-time MVP's bold claim. Some even accused James of always wanting to play alongside the league's best players, prompting him to clarify his comments.
In a social media post, James made it clear to everybody that there was nothing to buzz about what he said. Regardless of what context people put in his words, The King ultimately concluded that he got nothing but love for MJ and all the other all-time greats.
"No I didn't say I envisioned MJ as a teammate not an adversary," LBJ wrote on X. "A question was asked "Do I think I could have been a teammate of his and compliment his game". I love the greats and would have loved to play with them all during their runs because I [am] a historian of the game but… I also would die to compete vs every single one of them too! Don't ever get it twisted! . Nevertheless MJ Thank You for being my angel, inspiration, superhero!!"
LeBron on why he and MJ could've worked out as duo
In all fairness to James' remarks about playing with Jordan, he didn't just come up with a lazy analysis. Instead, Bron really broke down why he was convinced that he and His Airness would've developed great chemistry as teammates.
According to LeBron, there wouldn't be any power struggle between him and Jordan, as he knew how to adapt to scorers. The way James sees it, he would've been more like a Scottie Pippen if he went out there with Mike, but a little better.
"Mike is an assassin. When it comes to playing the game of basketball, scoring the way he scored the ball, [then] my ability to pass, my ability to read the game plays and plays and plays in advance," James assessed.
"I saw the things [Scottie Pippen] was able to do with Mike. I just think it would've been a whole nother level," he predicted. "Pip was one of my favorite players … It would've been a whole nother level with me being a point forward, with me being that point forward alongside him during those Chicago runs."
Never meant to share the NBA hardwood
Truth be told, it's hard to disagree with James' take. Throughout his legendary NBA career, The King has proven time and again that he can play alongside a wide array of stars with different attributes and playing styles.
Suppose it happened back then, and LeBron got the chance to join Jordan on the same team, it wouldn't be a surprise if they also won titles together. However, that was never the case. The year Jordan retired for the last time was the year James entered the NBA. Perhaps, they were never meant to share the NBA hardwood as rivals, let alone as teammates.
Still, fans couldn't help but compare the two. The MJ-LeBron comparison became a constant subject of discussion within the NBA community. It reached the point where Jordan was quizzed to share his honest thoughts on James, especially regarding his place in the GOAT conversation.
"We are playing in different eras, and he is an unbelievable player. He is one of the best players in the world if not the best player in the world. I know it's a natural tendency to compare eras to eras, and it's going to continue to happen," Mike once said of Bron.
Based on what James and Jordan had to say about each other, it's safe to say that no matter how much people buzz about them, their mutual admiration and respect always prevail.
