A simple hotel check-in turned into an unexpected VIP moment for ESPN college football analyst Darius Walker after staff apparently mistook him for Grammy-winning country singer Darius Rucker.
Walker shared the mix-up in an Instagram video, joking that the hotel upgraded his room after hearing his first name.
“When the hotel accidentally upgrades you because they think you said Darius Rucker,” text over the video reads as Walker smiles while showing off his upgraded accommodations.
“Apparently there’s another famous Darius… and today we both won,” he wrote in the caption, adding laughing and shrugging emojis.
The lighthearted post quickly took off, with viewers embracing the case of mistaken identity. Before long, the “other Darius” joined the conversation himself.
“You’re welcome!! Hahhahahahhaha,” Rucker commented.
Walker was just as surprised as his followers.
“The other Darius has entered the chat. I was not prepared for this,” he replied. “Welcome brother. I appreciate you!!”
Not long after, Walker leaned into the joke with a second Instagram video, pretending he’d begun looking into the man many people assumed had been responsible for his hotel upgrade.
“Let’s be clear, I’m a legit Darius. I’ve been one my entire life,” Walker says in the clip. “I’ve won championships, scored touchdowns, been on TV.”
Still, he joked that ever since posting the original video, Rucker seemed to be winning over the internet.

“People started tagging him, talking about the Grammys he’s won. He’s super cool. He’s the GOAT. His singing’s amazing,” Walker says, before adding with a laugh that he also discovered “there’s a growing number of people who were convinced his name was Hootie the whole time.”
Walker closes the video by saying he’ll “keep investigating this other Darius,” before joking that a photo of Rucker may become a permanent addition to his travel gear as he prepares for the upcoming college football season — just in case another hotel employee mistakes him for the country star.
