A former corrections officer at the Federal Corrections Institute in Otisville in Orange County has been accused of sexually abusing a person being held at the prison.
Jay Clayton, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and other federal officials announced the unsealing of an indictment charging Kyle Brown, 27, of Newburgh, with three counts of sexual abuse of a ward for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with an inmate he was responsible for guarding.
According to allegations in the indictment, between 2024 and on or about July 1, 2026, Brown was employed as a corrections officer at the Federal Corrections Institute in Otisville.
On three occasions between Dec. 26, 2025, and April 4, 2026, Brown allegedly engaged in anal and/or oral sex with an inmate at the prison over whom he had authority.
"When a correctional officer abuses their power and harms an inmate, it is not only a violation of federal law — it is a betrayal of the trust that New York families place in our institutions," Clayton said in a statement issued by his office. "We will continue to protect victims, pursue the truth, and hold accountable anyone who abuses their power for their own sexual gratification."
Brown faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if he is convicted. His attorney, Joy Chen, could not immediately be reached for comment.
