Conor McGregor has been pictured behind the wheel of a car in the US, despite having his driving licence suspended in Ireland.
McGregor posted the photo on his Instagram account on July 8th, before his fight with Max Holloway, but it has since been deleted.
The Irishman made his long-awaited comeback to the UFC earlier in the month, when he lost in just over a minute to Max Holloway in Las Vegas. It has since been announced that McGregor has suffered an ACL injury and requires surgery, putting the second fight on his contract in doubt.
The photo posted on Instagram shows him behind the wheel of a large black vehicle next to a jet on an airport runway with members of his family, including wife Dee Devlin, visible inside the car.
It is understood that driving laws in Nevada mean an international licence must be valid in its home country to be deemed operational there, but it is unclear whether McGregor actually drove the car, as the post on Instagram featured only images, not videos.
In the Instagram post, the Dubliner wrote about completing the first day of media promotion for the fight in Las Vegas, before also writing that it was time to ‘collect my family at the airport, thank you, God! Reunited!’
Earlier photos in the post showed McGregor in the back of a vehicle, being driven to reunite with his family, which may indicate that McGregor was, in fact, not driving the car in the later photo.
McGregor received convictions for Irish road traffic offences and was banned from driving for two years at a court hearing in Dublin on July 31, 2024, after admitting to careless driving at the M50 southbound and dangerous driving at the N4/M50 interchange.
A garda witness said he had driven at speeds of more than 160 km/h trying to catch the MMA fighter’s vehicle, with Judge David McHugh saying the incident was an appalling series of breaches of road traffic rules, and described Conor McGregor’s dangerous driving as ‘persistent, prolonged and deliberate’.
