Key Points
Comedian and actress Jessica Kirson slammed former View cohost Star Jones as a “diva.”
The performer, who is a lesbian, also used a gay slur to describe Jones’ ex-husband.
Kirson recounted a what she felt was a tense interaction with Jones on the talk show.
Across several appearances on The View, comedian and actress Jessica Kirson has made the talk show’s studio audience laugh many times over the years. The comic has alleged that former cohost Star Jones, however, definitely wasn’t laughing at her presence on the program.
“I did The View, which, it was an interesting experience because I felt like the energy there was hard for me,” Kirson said on a recent episode of The Jessica Kirson Show (watch below). “Star Jones was on at the time, this was a long time ago. Star Jones was very, like, a diva.”
Jones, the current head judge on Divorce Court, served as cohost on The View from its inception in 1997 through to 2006, when she famously surprised her colleagues by unexpectedly announcing her departure from the show live on the air.
Kirson didn’t give much context about what she was doing on The View during the time of the alleged interaction, though the comedian has appeared several times on the show, including during the “Joy’s Comedy Corner” segment with longtime panelist Joy Behar.
“I was like, ‘And please welcome Star Jones!’” Kirson remembered, adding that, minutes later, the show’s production team scolded her.
“Star is very upset with you because you said ‘Star Jones’ and not ‘Star Jones Reynolds’ and it’s not okay,’” Kirson said, quoting an unnamed member of the production crew that she said chastised her in the moment.
“I read what it said to say on the cards,” Kirson remembered. She said Jones then walked over with two men on either side of her, “helping her [walk] because she had stilts on.”
“She came up to me and she literally said, ‘My name is Star Jones Reynolds, and I would appreciate if you called me that. That’s my name,’” she claimed Jones said. Kirson, who is a lesbian, then used a gay slur to describe Jones’ ex-husband, Al Reynolds, to whom Jones was married from 2004-2008: “I was like, your husband is a f-----, let’s move on.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for The View and Jones for comment.
While Jones left The View as a permanent panelist in 2006, she has returned multiple times over the years.
She recently appeared as a guest twice in 2025, and returned once again earlier this year. During her 2025 appearance, she reflected on her body image during her original run on the show, calling herself “fat as a mug” when the show played archival footage of her on the program.

Current moderator Whoopi Goldberg gave Jones a warm reception at the time, introducing her by saying that the lawyer and TV personality “always had an open invitation to come back any time” since her high-profile exit.
The View airs weekdays on ABC. Watch Kirson’s recollection of her tense moment with Jones in the clip above.
