Chris Gotterup commits to 2026 Rocket Classic, to be played one last time at Detroit Golf Club

DETROIT — The list of top-ranked golfers coming to Detroit keeps growing.

The Rocket Classic, which is holding its final event at Detroit Golf Club in 2026, is adding world No. 7 golfer Chris Gotterup, per an announcement released on Tuesday, July 21. Gotterup has won three PGA Tour events in 2026, most recently the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois, on July 5.

The Classic announced three other commitments on Tuesday – Ben Griffin (world No. 19), 2015 PGA Championship winner Jason Day (No. 56) and Australian golf influencer Ryan Ruffels, who has made 21 PGA Tour starts and was granted the last sponsor exemption into the tournament.

Gotterup was 15 under in the 2025 Rocket Classic, good for a tie for 26th, 3 under, tied for 67th, in 2024 and 8 under at the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic (tied for 49th), his first time participating in the event.

Griffin finished tied for 13th in 2025. Day last participated in the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2022, when he finished tied for 17th.

The Classic, which takes place at Detroit Golf Club from July 30-Aug. 2, has recently gotten big names to commit to the event, including star golfer Brooks Koepka and world No. 3 Cameron Young.
