Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway signs to be removed by officials

Signs designating part of Vietnam Veterans Boulevard as the "Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway" will be removed and relocated after objections from Vietnam veterans according to reporting from WKRN, and local officials who argued the roadway should remain dedicated solely to those who served and died in the Vietnam War.

The signs, installed along State Route 386 in Sumner County, Tennessee, commemorated the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk after the Tennessee General Assembly approved the designation. Sumner County Commissioner Jeremy Mansfield announced that the markers would instead be moved to Long Hollow Pike in Goodlettsville, saying Vietnam veterans had not been consulted before the signs were installed on the boulevard.

The designation prompted criticism from veterans who said Vietnam Veterans Boulevard was established to honor the 25 Sumner County service members who lost their lives in Vietnam. Barry Rice, president of Tennessee's Vietnam Veterans Council, said the placement of the signs on the memorial roadway undermined years of work by local veterans to secure recognition for those killed in the war.
